The South Bank Parklands is a landmark Brisbane community space and tourism destination that has seen multiple landscaping revitalisations. A site like South Bank is the forefront of Brisbane’s cultural and regional events. Therefore any additions and changes to the precinct must be iconic. Penfold Projects was responsible for a major revival of the area in 2011.
One of the worst flooding the Brisbane River has seen in recent years occurred during the renewal of South Bank Parklands. The flooding naturally presented challenges with delays, the destruction of already completed work, and accessibility and site problems. Despite these challenges, we persevered through it all to create the stunning space we know today.
We revisited the site recently to see how the space has grown since, and we must admit, our work for South Bank Parklands has turned out better than we could have imagined and are used by all. We found River Quays green, Liana Green, and Rainforest filled with bootcampers in mornings, and picnickers in the afternoon. While the Rainforest Walk enchants both young and old.
