Royal Adelaide Hospital
Our team had the pleasure of working with HYLC Joint Venture and Tract for the delivery of the landscaping works for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, completed in 2016.
The new Royal Adelaide Hospital is situated in the city’s West End, and is one of the leading medical precincts in Australia, serving as the state’s primary healthcare facility and teaching hospital.
Working with the South Australian Government and the developers Hansen Yuncken & Leighton Contractors, our project scope involved the construction of hardscapes and softscapes over 6.3ha of the hospital’s development.
Extensive gardens, public plazas, and parkland surround the hospital exterior, and within the hospital, there are 80 internal courtyards, skygardens, and balconies. Our team installed a large green wall and trellis system as part of this project, and the vibrant planting palette was chosen for its hardiness in the tough and dry southern climate.
Tract’s design philosophy for this project is ‘park within a hospital, hospital within a park’, and this stems from research finding increased rates of healing and recovery, and wellbeing when patients are surrounded by greenspace.
