Hyperdome Upgrade

Penfold Projects is thrilled to be part of the multi-million-dollar Hyperdome upgrade, with the latest development of their masterplan works now completed to the North mall section.

Inspired by the Queensland climate, the redesign for the Hyperdome upgrade puts an emphasis on natural light. The areas of work featured in our scope includes the beautiful atrium connecting Big W and Woolworths, as well as 3 entrances in an effort to improve the visual experience of shoppers.

The redesign of the atrium translates the intent to highlight space and volume by softening the space with overhead greenery that recalls the lush outdoors. A vibrant string of artificial plants was installed cascading down the edges of the indoor structure, to create a natural look. An array of pots was scattered throughout the shopping centre to follow the visual concept.

The redesign and rework of multiple entrances offer welcoming environment for the benefit of the local community. A rich palette of tropical species has been used for the planting of all garden beds and podiums. On the hardscape front, crazy paving was the style of choice for multiple block walls and pavements which was also complemented by colored concrete.

The play space to the East entrance is our signature contribution to the Hyperdome Upgrade. Elements featured involve a miniature forest area with stone paths and an arrangement of concrete tree stump steppers and timber logs; artificial turf with multiple rubber domes; and a climbing wall designed and constructed by the team. The area is secured with high aluminum fence and sheltered by shade sails. As a result, this allows the area to stay cool and allow more play time for the kids.
