Griffin State School
Griffin State School is based in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. Opening in 2016 with over than 260 students, its motto “Anchored in Excellence” is a fitting representation for one of the premier institutions in Queensland.
Engaged by client Wiley & Co, Penfold Projects kept a focus on delivering a project of the finest quality and finish. The rich scope of works for the Griffin State School project encompassed a complex mix of softscape and hardscape designed by renowned Landscape Architect Jeremy Ferrier.
Softscape work included a substantial planting schedule paired with the installation of up to 1300 m2 of natural and artificial turf. An earth mound was created adding a three-dimensional effect to the design and an additional playing feature for the students. On the hardscape front, a wide range of concrete work was completed forming an original blend of elements. A checkered concrete surface compliments the design with texture, while curved seat walls accent the space with a touch of elegance. A sturdy block hitting wall allowing the kids some playtime was built including concrete steps. Rubber soft fall was also fitted to enhance the safety of the playground area, and a variety of furniture was installed including a basketball hoop, shade sails for the playground and multiple benches.
A lush dry creek bordering the main area acts as an exclamation mark to the whole project. Displaying a full array of softscape components, our team was tasked with the installation of a timber bridge, multiple crossing features, log seats, stepping-stone and boulder paths. Excavation and shaping of the creek was completed using decomposed granite, river rocks, concrete and sandstone rocks.
The project is currently under post-construction maintenance.
